This forum was started as a place for everyone to express their opinions, and it would be very strange if TPTB [how bizarre to think that I might fall into that category..] would make decisions without letting everyone else join in the bunfight, too. :D The discussion is about the rules of this place, so it's ironic that I'm going to set a rule, but I've decided to go for pragmatic results rather than political correctness. So, there is a Rule for this thread. Posts that merely say "the admins are a bunch of *EDITS*" are strongly discouraged, and likely to be, well, edited. Posts that say "the admins &^$#*'d up when they did this specific thing, and this is the reasoning behind my conclusion" are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED.
If you aren't sure which category your remarks fall into, ask yourself whether your post will shed some light on what amendments should be made to the forum constitution. If it does, go ahead and post it. If it merely whines about past events, or demands total freedom to say anything you feel like saying, don't bother. This thread is about taking constructive action for defining the rules of this forum, not about personal criticism of admins. Obviously, it will often be necessary to criticise admin actions as part of your argument for a particular amendment, and there's no problem with that - in fact, it's [perversely?] welcome. It's the criticism for the sake of whacking an admin that would be out of line.
This is a touchy topic, even for this place, but the admins want this forum to work well even more than you do - we've voluntarily taken on the responsibility of dealing with problems that arise here, and paying for the place to stay open [surprise! it isn't free!]. So I ask that, before you condemn what we've done, ask yourself how you would have dealt with the situation if you were an admin and wanted to keep this a place where touchy topics can be discussed without the fear that you'll be trashed for expressing yourself or for asking thought-provoking questions.
I know there will be worthless epithets posted here, but I hope that those of you who actually have something to say will say it. I'm willing to sort through the chaff to find your wheat, and I'm betting that my fellow admins will do the same.
