Posts: 96 (09/18/02 22:04:57) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	Tags : None [stuck to the door of the admins' control panel] Got a note that there'd been difficulty with banning and unbanning ip numbers. I think I got it straightened out: all ip numbers are unbanned. I'd highly suggest (aside from my usual ranting about the utter uselessness and folly of "banning" in the first place) a bit more care in trying to ban ip ranges. It was a bit of a mess in there. I can always reban the things that were unbanned if there's convincing reason. However, you'll have to remember that a claim that banning results in behavior modification will not result in convincification. You folk know I don't buy that for a second. -The Janitor.

I'm a bit concerned about unbanning all IPs - what if an IP was banned by an admin in another EZ forum? Can the formerly banned poster now post everywhere? Or is IP un/banning limited to the forum [e.g., Crossroads] where it was done? And, since you're our technical wizard, is there some reason why I suddenly have to log in for every post, when I never logged out? [The doohickeys that show which forum has new messages has also changed appearance and position, at least on my computer.] Is this log-in glitch a local thing and the result of our own collective messing about, or is it probably just another EZ Board twinge? Grateful that someone knows about this stuff, RP

Posts: 96 (09/20/02 21:11:33) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	No no, the IP ban/unban only applies to board at which it's done, so the only board affected by any of it is this one. Same as banning via email address and username - it only applies to that particular board. Nothing to worry about. The login thing is an Ezboard twinge, yes. They've been working on doing some various upgrades (features, bugs; depends on whom you ask) to security things that some see as a bit ... uncool. According to the help fora it's merely a matter of re-logging in in such a way that your browser's cookies get reset (some say that means once you've logged in at each server [pub1...pub n]; others say it's a random problem that only Ezboard staff don't seem to have; others are less diplomatic). Logging in from Ezboard's home page itself may help. (asterisks are there to show things that are links... the style sheet seems to not want to bother demarking them differently than regular old text)

EZ Board finally noticed that I had logged in [after I had done so on individual threads, on this board, and on the main page, several times each] - I'm back to being able to mindlessly post, without verifying my identity. And the "new posts" icons are still a little strange, but they stick out to the left of the thread again instead of being tucked underneath the title. Don't anybody try to tell me computers aren't moody. There's no such thing as a truely inanimate object.
